About Me

My passion is to help women discover their power and birth in their own way.  I serve as a Traditional Community midwife, together with another experienced midwife for women wanting to birth at home.  We help women come to their birth prepared for the experience, with tools to help them deal with whatever situation they may face.   I have been doing my academic training through Ancient Art of Midwifery school and I am planning my completion date/graduation the end of 2011, Lord willing.  I have done my clinical training through a variety of skills workshops and birth experience with a number of different experienced midwives.

I hold memberships in these organizations:

Christian Midwives International  (CMI)

Midwives Alliance of North America  (MANA)

Doulas of North America  (DONA)

Lamaze International

Coalition for the Improvement in Maternity Services  (CIMS)

International Cesarean Awareness Network  (ICAN)

Dayton Area Labor Support  (DALS)

I have the following certifications:

Birth Doula:  (DONA)

Childbirth Educator:  (Lamaze, AAMI)

Lactation Care Specialist (Advanced Birthing Concepts)

Happiest Baby Educator (Happiest Baby on the Block)

Baby’s First Massage Instructor (Baby’s First Massage)

Waterbirth Credential  (Advanced Birthing Concepts)

I also take clients who are planning a hospital birth in the capacity of either a monitrice or a birth doula.  A monitrice does the same things as a doula with the added services of monitoring the woman/baby clinically.

I have always loved children, especially babies! I have given birth to 10 of my own! My children range in age from 27yrs old down to 10yrs old. I was priviledged to serve my daughter as her midwife and help catch my first granddaughter in March 2010.  She is the light of our lives and a pleasure to be around.  I have been married for over twenty-eight years to my best friend and it is our privilege to home educate our children. Five of them have graduated and moved on to either work or college and three of them are married.

My own births were medically managed. I experienced vaginal births, cesearans, VBACs, and then 2 more cesareans for my last 2 children. I never heard of professional labor support but I set out to become a doula as soon as I heard the term in 2006. I had already assisted a couple of my friends as they gave birth and been a breastfeeding support counselor to many others, so becoming a doula and childbirth educator was a natural progression.

I have channeled my experiences and passion into helping other families have that essential support during life's most memorable and blessed experiences. Birth is designed to work even if there was no one else present.  Each mother-baby dyad only has one birth experience. There is no do-over, only one chance to get it right. Research shows that a woman will be satisfied with her birth if she feels like she was involved in the decision-making and is well supported, even if the process does not follow her exact plans.  I love everything to do with children, babies & birth and would love to assist you as you add to your own families.
